Newbury Club Finals 2026 – A Fantastic Day of Tennis
Newbury Tennis Club celebrated a fantastic day of tennis as players battled it out for club honours at the 2026 Club Finals.
With plenty of spectators, competitive matches, great food and drink, and a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day, the Finals provided a fitting celebration of another successful season for the club.
There was plenty of drama on court, with several finals going all the way to deciding sets and match tie-breaks.
🏆 Senior Finals
Men’s Singles
Dave produced a strong performance to beat Joe 6-3, 6-3 and claim the Men’s Singles title.
Women’s Singles
Eliana defeated Carrie 6-2, 6-3 to become Women’s Singles champion. Eliana, who is also a Berkshire Junior County Player, showed the quality that has seen her represent the county.
Men’s Doubles
Michael and Ollie came from behind to take the Men’s Doubles title against James and Ozoh. After losing the opening set 5-7, they fought back to win the second 6-1, before taking the deciding match tie-break.
Women’s Doubles
Carrie and Gabi were convincing winners, defeating Alison and Hannah 6-1, 6-1.
Mixed Doubles
Dane and Jemma took the Mixed Doubles title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Michael and Carrie.
🎾 Veterans Finals
The Veterans competitions produced some particularly close encounters.
Luke edged out David 6-4, 7-5 in a very competitive Veterans Singles final.
The pair then put their rivalry aside and teamed up to win the Veterans Men’s Doubles, defeating Robin and Olly 7-5, 6-1.
In the Veterans Women’s Doubles, Hazel and Vicky overcame Helen and Mary 6-3, 7-6 in another closely fought final.
🥇 Plate Finals
There was plenty of competitive tennis in the Plate competitions too.
Callum won the Men’s Singles Plate, defeating Robin 6-4, 6-0.
Robin went one better in the Men’s Doubles Plate, teaming up with John to beat Tom and Richard in a thriller. After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 2-6, Robin and John prevailed 12-10 in the deciding match tie-break.
Robin featured in another Plate final, this time alongside Radka in the Mixed Doubles Plate, where they beat Tamsin and Patrick 6-2, 6-4.
🌟 Junior Champion
The future of Newbury Tennis was also on show, with William taking the Junior Singles title after defeating Sebastian 4-2, 4-0.
🍕 More Than Just Tennis
The Finals were about much more than the results. Lots of spectators came along to support the players, creating a great atmosphere around the courts throughout the day.
Players and spectators were also able to enjoy food and drinks during the event, including pizzas from the club's pizza oven, helping to make the Finals a real social occasion for the whole club.
A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers who organised and ran the tournament, as well as everyone who helped out and supported the event on the day. Their time and effort helped make the 2026 Club Finals such a success.
